A 28 year resident & researcher of Easter Island (Rapa Nui). Roby passed away quietly in his sleep on Aug. 5, 2013. Roby was our wonderful, brilliant friend. He was also a veteran of several expeditions, including Explorers Club Flag expeditions throughout Polynesia and Papua New Guinea. He was a very gifted artist who had only created approx. 50 painting’s, as he made only 4-6 per year as each one took a lot of study and time. He also provided many of the illustrations found in the museum on Easter Island. His work has been collected by appreciators of ethnographic art throughout the world and is very LIMITED. His generous donation of his silk screens represent his PETROGLYPH series and are inspired by the actual petro glyphs created by the ancient people of Rapa Nui. The proceeds of the sale of each piece goes to the PACIFIC ISLANDS RESEARCH INSTITUTE to further their research efforts. We will all miss him terribly; he was a true and dedicated friend.
